The Chance Theatre Company was founded by Oanh Nguyen, Fred Hatfield, and Chris Ceballos, and soon after, they were joined by Erika Miller and Jeff Hellebrand. In their third production, Long joined the troupe during a casting call. She is now considered a founding member. Other early members of the troupe include Jocelyn Brown, Kelly Todd, and Lisa Zaradich.
